I started piano, having left York University as a chemistry graduate. I was 21, totally lost, and headed for a breakdown. That happened aged 24, in 1992. Had I not taken music up I'd be dead according to my mother. I was diagnosed with psychotic depression after quitting two consecutive programming jobs. By 1997 I'd passed grade 8 piano with merit. Ultimately, I failed an ARSM diploma by 2 marks. Covid cancelled my face to face DipLCM attempt, but I'd done Okay with piano, and continue to play jazzy songs and some classics like Bartok and Schumann.
